Hi all,

As a number of folks were either enjoying the summer elsewhere or away playing in a tournament, so there were a few league games that did not take place this weekend. Out of curiosity, where a team defaults because of lack of attendance, is there a penalty of some kind? Is there an opportunity for a make-up game? How does the league normally deal with this issue?

Thanks!

I see the fee has been dropped. Believe it used to be $100...although I also understand never imposed. So maybe that means it has actually been increased...assuming imposed.

I think the reality of the situation is that lots of people are making trips back from the weekend getaways. To show up for no game, is not fair to anyone. So I do hope the league considers this fact in determining what is fair to the offending teams this past weekend.

I went back through the results of past years (by viewing the entire schedule for each division, since the standings page won't load) and the last time that any team defaulted more than one regular season game was in 2011 Summer C division.

Let's make it clear: this year it's the 5pm Rec division, the team is "Pic N Flick" and according to the reported scores, they have now defaulted their last three games in a row.

Looks like this is an unprecedented event for DUC, at least in recent history.

Full disclosure: Pic N Flick defaulted against the 5pm Rec team I play on (Hammerheads) two weeks ago. One player showed up for them. We had enough to play. And my 7pm Rec team (Sonic Youth) defaulted our second game of the season (not enough ladies in attendance, IIRC) for which we are really, really sorry.

Just a thought.
If you are playing in the recreational league and short female players, why not see if you can borrow a girl from the other team? This might save a team from a default and give both teams a good spirit score right?

And play it safe. If you are short girls and its a very hot/ sunny day out. Take extra water/food breaks. Even if it means that you play with two girls instead of three for a point or two.

I understand that the rules may be little more strict for the competitive league. I have played with only two girls on the field before. Still took breaks when needed.

Good advice, Kristy. In our (Sonic Youth) case, we borrowed some female players from the other team and played a game for fun, but still took the default.

Just wear a skirt Vic. You have the legs for it.

If a guy on the other team wore a tube top, I would let him play as a girl just for the spirit.
